Unique Foxborough Offer Overview

A cornerstone of our School Development plan for the next three years is our Unique Foxborough Offer. The intention of our unique school offer is to create and embed package of opportunities, responsibilities, trips, visits and resources that develop the whole child.

We want Pupils at Foxborough Primary School to contribute to their community in a positive way, in their classroom, in the school and in our community. We want children learn what it is to be a good citizen and how this benefits society. We will grow together to be responsible, empathetic and valuable members of our world- we are the children of today and the leaders of tomorrow.

There are three strands to this strategy:

• Embedding our school values- ‘We ROCK!’
• Creating meaningful opportunities for children to expand their cultural capital and nurture talents and interests
• Expanding our pastoral offer to provide the best support for pupils and parents with a strong focus on Social and Mental Health

School values- We ROCK!

Through our school vales, pupils at Foxborough Primary School learn how to contribute to their community in a positive way, in their classroom, in the school and in our community. Children learn what it is to be a good citizen and how this benefits society. We challenge each other to be responsible, open-minded and valuable members of our world- we are the children of today and the leaders of tomorrow. Children at Foxborough have opportunities that enrich their experience of school, allow them to discover talents, nurture interests and find joy in new experiences.  

Following the launch of our ROCK values last year, this year will look at developing and embedding our school values in multiple aspects of school life. We will be looking to expand the impact of our values through developing a ‘ROCK’ curriculum that distinguishes the progression of our values throughout the school. Values will continue to be celebrated in our assemblies each week and on three ‘We ROCK values days’ throughout the year in order to create an ethos and culture of responsibility, open-mindedness, challenge and kindness across the school.

This can be broken down broadly in the following points:

• Pupil and staff responsibilities
• Lyfta and Oracy (Open mindedness)
• Curriculum challenges
• Moodmeter and RULER toolkit (Kindness)

Pupils take on the year group responsibility for their class which adds to the culture and value of our school. They learn and develop skills of cooperation, problem solving, reasoning, leadership, and collaboration. These activities will also provide opportunities for talk and discussion, whilst broadening vocabulary. Pupils will develop their relationships with each other and the school staff and understand how their actions can have a positive impact to their society, including demonstrating British values. This includes the roles of House captains, Pupil Parliament leads and Junior Leaders. Parents will be involved and informed via assemblies and communication. Staff also demonstrate responsibility so that every member of our community shows dedication and pride in what we do, adding value to our school.

Pupils demonstrate open-mindedness, empathy and the ability to listen and learn from the points of view of others. This is developed through explicit teaching as part of oracy lessons as well as through whole school and class assemblies. Lyfta assemblies allow pupils to recognise themselves as global citizens when they are transported to different countries around the world to experience life through the eyes of others. We will expand this by launching the pupil platform to allow parents and children to engage at home.

Our Curriculum will demonstrate high expectations for pupil achievement in lessons for all pupils. This includes providing challenge from pupils’ starting points in order to ensure that they meet or exceed progress expectations. Accurate formative and summative assessment informs teachers’ planning to ensure that pupils are challenged to remember more and do more as a result of the knowledge they have acquired. Children will also have the opportunity to complete a variety of wider-curricular challenges throughout the year such as a Spelling challenge, a times tables challenge, an Art challenge, physical challenges and a charity challenge to enrich the experiences of pupils and promote engagement with their learning.

The Zones of regulation are used widely across the school with staff and pupils to ensure that all members of the school community have the emotional literacy, vocabulary and understanding to be able to recognise, understand, label, express and regulate their own emotions and those of others. Zones toolkits are used in classrooms, assemblies and staff meetings to build confidence and a shared language around communicating emotions.  We ensure that pupils take care of their own wellbeing, practising kindness to themselves and others.

Opportunities

At Foxborough Primary School, we want our children to experience awe, wonder and excitement whilst developing their cultural capital. We want our children to investigate what our local area has to offer and travel further afield too to widen their horizons. During children’s school journey, they will experience trips, visits and visitors that enhance the core curriculum. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

We value our culturally rich and diverse community. We value the importance of learning from and learning about different religions. Children at Foxborough have the opportunity to experiences places of worship first-hand in order to further develop their knowledge and understanding. These visits support our RE curriculum and the Big Questions children explore in every year group.

As children progress through our school, they will experience special opportunities each year- ranging from first aid training to specialist sporting support. Our opportunities go above and beyond the national curriculum, giving our children a wealth of experiences unique to Foxborough.

Pastoral

Schools exist to serve their local communities, to create educational settings which value every child in that community, and to recognise both the potential and the contributions these children can make. At Foxborough Primary School, we provide a rich pastoral programme to support our children and we want to continue to develop, enrich and communicate this effectively. We want to provide a programme where teachers and staff can make informed decisions to what support children can benefit from to support their social, moral, spiritual and academic outcomes. After undergoing two extended periods of school closures, our children have experience loss in many senses of the word. We will utilise our good relationships with families and assessment to provide the support children need to succeed in all areas of their lives. Parents and carers will be involved in this process by effective communication and feedback opportunities.

Strong parental involvement is often associated with positive outcomes for pupils. We want to further develop our approaches to help work together in partnership with families. A partnership to work towards our common goal is our focus, rooted in mutual respect and understanding for why some families feel less able to engage with schools.

Pastoral approaches will include:

• Provisions- we regularly review how academic provisions are organised and delivered in order to improve the quality and range of provisions offered to support pupils.
• SEMH offer – we have a school counsellor, play therapist and an Educational Psychologist that work with us on a regular basis to support our pupils. We also work closely with Slough Mental Heath Support Team
• SEND support – we are continually supporting our staff to develop their knowledge and skills in order to best support our pupils with Special Educational Needs
• Parental offer and engagement – we work hard to engage our parents including lots of workshops and events in school as well as a Mother and Toddler group
• Attendance – we actively support parents through the work of our Pastoral and Family Support Lead
